What is Landscape Architecture??????

Landscape Architecture’ deals with concerns and concepts related to pure nature, nature-man relationship and man made environments. It elaborates on their various forms at micro to macro Level.
Landscape Architecture has a ‘history’ a ‘present’ and a ‘future’, which reveals man’s response to nature from the past till present. The essential dimension of

Landscape Architecture is the dimension of time.


Landscape Architecture encompasses aspects such as -

• Ecology
• Environmental upgradation,
• Industrial landscapes
• Wasteland management,
• Forest landscapes
• Urban landscapes
• Recreational and Residential landscapes
• Green belts
• Roadscapes
• Cultural and Historic Landscapes and so on…

Today, rapidly evolving technologies has opened the gateway to the world, allowing the architects to work on prestigious projects abroad and giving their expertise to the other nations. Organizations like IFLA ( International Federation of Landscape Architects) ,ISOLA (Indian Society of Landscape Architects) are playing a major role in bringing the landscape architects on one platform leading to exchange of know-how, knowledge and trends in the field.

Live Projects

Students get an opportunity to deal with live projects from Regional Local to site specific scale.
These are taken ahead under our consultancy cell - LACC. Students are also part of this cell. The Department of Landscape architecture's policy is "Earn while Learn" .The project gives them an opportunity of providing financial aid to the student while she is studying for the course ,at the same time makes her ready to perform the best in this competitive world.

First Project -

Urban Landscape study - Roadscapes
Under ‘Urban Landscape study’ ,the students dealt with designing and enhancing the quality of the main roads in Pune namely ‘Laxmi Road, ‘Fergusson Road’ and ‘Bajirao Road’
One of the design - Laxmi Road was taken further as part of the competition.
Pune Municipal Corporation is showing interest in executing some areas of Laxmi Road. We are currently talking with them and will be meeting soon in person.

Second Project -
Wonder Futura - Residential, Commercial and Entertainment complex
They completed a Landscape Design for a Residential cum commercial complex ‘Wonder Futura ‘ at the Mumbai-Bangalore highway where they had to deal with site divided into two sectors by the highway . It will be soon presented to the builder to take it to level of execution.

Third Project -
Expat Properties, Uravade site
Expat Properties , a Dubai based company with India association has acquired a land of 400 acres In Uravade. Out of 400 Acres ,students are currently working on 118 acres sloping site of Expat Properties. They are giving proposals which will be economically viable and environmentally sustainable. Expat is interested in knowing students studies and views and if found feasible, would like to incorporate it too.

Fourth Project -
G M , India, Talegaon.

In the second year , Third semester students will work on Industrial campus of 300 acres.
This is a live project on which students will work . This is floated in the form of competition by G M ,India.
Total prize money for this project is 3 Lacs.

Joint Studio of BNCA with SPA-Delhi and INTACH- Belgium on 'Lost Gardens' Of Khajuraho

Students of 1st year M.Arch (LA) attended the Joint Studio Programme which was ventured by SPA –Delhi along with INTACH-Belgium as their partners from 25th to 28th April 2007 at Khajuraho.
The joint programme focused on the ‘Lost Gardens’ project wherein three gardens identified in Rajnagar area (5 km away from Khajuraho)were studied in detail and documented for working out proposals for the same.

  • The students were divided into groups of seven students each looking at a particular garden.
  • The students surveyed the immediate surroundings and documented the activities, structures and vegetation.
  • They updated the basic survey drawings by condition assessment of structures, landforms and photographic data was added.
  • Botanical documentation was made by listing the trees and major shrubs with the help of quadrats and an herbarium was to prepared alongside.
  • Scientific Debris clearing was done by excavating smaller pits with minimum disturbance to the gardens and documented for the findings. Students were able to find traces of water channels connected to the existing ones on the site.

A group of students interviewed people in Rajnagar about the gardens. Senior citizens were chosen for the same and they could trace the history of the gardens till its original owner.

Students were guided by SPA-BNCA faculty.
